Hyderabad, India
Company Visits (Summer 2015)
Kent Darzi of ADTRAN, Jeff Jirak of Procter & Gamble, and William Gipson of DuPont - several of the STEM Path to the MBA Advisory Board members - stepped forward to arrange for students to visit their Indian operations during the first summer trip.
Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad are all growing their technology industries rapidly, and each of the aforementioned companies have operations in Hyderabad. ADTRAN hosted a tour of their Hyderabad facilities and led a discussion with students regarding the effects of growing internet bandwidth on the use of technology and entertainment. That evening they hosted the students for dinner at Falaknuma Palace.
Next, students visited Procter & Gamble’s Hyderabad plant. They learned about modeling and simulating plant operations, and they had an opportunity to speak with the plant’s leadership team. Students learned about the role of castes, gender, and age in the Indian workforce as well as the challenges faced by the P&G team.
Finally, students took a 3-hour bus trip across Hyderabad to DuPont’s facilities in the Knowledge Center. They learned about DuPont’s history and the genesis of a new company, Chemours. Students left the DuPont facilities with several ideas for how their technologies could be applied to the reverse innovation conversation.
Because the trip to India needed to be shortened, Hyderabad is no longer on the itinerary.
