Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets

This study abroad opportunity will introduce UA students to the high-tech industries arising in emerging markets throughout the world. Students will be provided the opportunity to directly interact with companies and executives from these various emerging market industries. The students will meet with businesses operating in the high-tech sector in all four cities on the itinerary. These meetings will allow exploration of the strategic competitive practices coming from these emerging market companies. Additionally, the students will be able to explore the operations management philosophies implemented in each company’s day-to-day activities.
The students will start their explorations in Shanghai, China with cultural immersion activities to include museum tours, visit to old city sites, design studios, and the French Quarters. Additionally, business visits are scheduled to wrap up the two day visit. Next up will be Shenzhen, China with two days scheduled including a full day introduction to the Shenzhen Open Innovation Ecosystem. After China, the students will depart to Hanoi, Vietnam for three days of cultural immersion, visits to rural Vietnam, and a tour of the Vietnamese startup ecosystem. The trip will conclude with a visit to Ho Chi Minh City to visit the city’s Manufacturing Zone as well as other sites.
